FAQ
Semper Editing
Services Offered
My services cover a lot of ground, but they usually fall into one of three
categories:

Copyediting
Also called proofreading, this is what most people think of hiring an editor
for. Copyediting means going through your document, word by word, line by
line, and correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage, and
formatting, among other things. Think of it as making sure you're saying
what you mean to say, in the most correct way possible.

Copyediting is usually billed at $1.50 per page, or $2.25 for rush jobs.

Content Editing
This the next level of editing. Content editing usually includes copyediting,
but it also
looks at logical structure, narrative flow, pacing, characterization,
and most substantive areas of writing. If copyediting deals with how you're
expressing your ideas, content editing deals with what ideas you're
expressing
and how you're expressing them.

Because it involves more work, content editing is usually billed at $3.00 per
page, or $4.50 for rush jobs.

Coaching
This covers everything else! Coaching deals with all the areas where writers
need help but don't necessarily have a page count. Coaching includes help
with brainstorming, outlining, researching, writing and rewriting, and 3
a.m. existential questions about how you're going to survive and whether
you should even be writing this. (The answer to the second one is usually
yes; I try to warn my clients off writing stupid things before we get to the 3
a.m.-question phase.)

Coaching is billed at $30.00 per hour or $45.00 for rush jobs.

All of these services are available for novels, screenplays, nonfiction
books, academic writing, and all other forms in which I work.

PLEASE NOTE: Page rates are calculated based on the number of
double-spaced pages, in 12 point Times New Roman font, with standard
margins. Rush jobs are jobs due back within 48 hours of the time I
receive them. Hourly rates are rounded to the nearest half-hour unless
otherwise specified.
